The Levada do Norte is one of the longest and oldest levadas on Madeira Island. Built Many centuries ago, its main purpose was to carry the water from the North side of Madeira, which was more humid and rainier, to the South side, in order to irrigate the main agricultural lands.
This Levada is perfect for those who wish to do a relaxing and easy walk on their visit to Madeira Island.
We have two meeting points in the center of Funchal City. One is by the cable car station located in the old town. The other is located in the roundabout so-called "Rotunda do Infante".
We are located at the entrance of the Shopping Center, on the right side. Our shop is easy to find, just look for a yellow smiley face, shop sign.
You can enjoy fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Campanário and Ribeira Brava, and the views over the valley of Ribeira Brava, at the end of the walk, are breathtaking. Along this Levada, you will see beautiful landscapes like as cultivation terraces, lovely houses, and charming gardens.
