Sagres is a picturesque setting in the far southwest of Portugal, famous for its spectacular cliffs, pristine beaches and the majestic Sagres Fort, which offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.
This day will show you some highlights of the picturesque city of Lisbon. Early in the morning, you will have time to visit the center of Lisbon. Visit some of its most important monuments, such as the Jerónimos Monastery and the Belém Tower, and indulge in the famous 'pastéis de Belém'. Your trip begins on a stretch of beach, where you will walk along the vast dune area of the beaches of Ilha do Pessegueiro, Aivados and Malhão.

This is a day to cleanse the soul with the stunning views of Vila Nova de Milfontes and the Mira River, which here meets the ocean. It's a short, affordable day hike so you can fully enjoy the area. Crossing the bridge over the river in Vila Nova de Milfontes offers a stunning view of the river mouth. There are sections along this part of the coast where the native vegetation shows all its diversity and other areas where it has been destroyed and swept away by a very aggressive exotic plant: the Acacia.
Accommodation in Almograve.
The high cliffs you will see during this part of the trip, despite being exposed to constant ocean winds, are the nesting place for more than twenty species of birds! These include the red-billed jay, red-billed warbler, common kestrel, "pure" turtle dove, white stork, peregrine falcon and redstart. If you look closely at this coastal strip, it's easy to see the traces of past climate change etched into the rocks.
Overnight in Zambujeira do Mar.
You will pass by the beaches of Alteirinhos, Carvalhal, Machados and Amália on your way to Azenha do Mar, where you will find a natural fishing port.
Overnight in Odeceixe
During today, the route will be along the Mira irrigation canal, fed by waters from the Santa Clara dam. The view is long, with the mountains to the east and the sea to the west. You can choose between two complementary circuits that will take you to the coastal cliffs and allow you to discover the beaches of Odeceixe and Amoreira.
Overnight in Aljezur
Today you will cross fragrant valleys and small farms as you approach the coast, already guessing where the route will take you in the coming days. Leaving the village allows you to admire the Aljezur river valley, which extends to Amoreira beach, and imagine what Aljezur would have been like in the 15th century. You will pass through an extension of the Caminho dos Pescadores, the Ponta da Atalaia circuit, and will pass by Monte Clérigo beach and the mythical Ponta da Atalaia. In a place marked by the power of legends and the era of the Portuguese conquest of the Moors, this tour is a true journey through time.
Overnight in Arrifana
In this section you travel along the Historical Route, with the constant and simultaneous presence of the mountains and the sea, the untouched nature and the unique presence of man. Pedra da Agulha, seen from Canal beach, the vast sandy beach of Vale Figueira, revealed at low tide, and a succession of hills and valleys confirm the more aggressive and inaccessible side of this coastal area. Upon arrival, you will have a privileged view of the dunes of Bordeira beach and the cove that meets the ocean, in a scenario that is repeated incessantly and that characterizes the beaches of Costa Vicentina.
Stay in the village of Carrapateira
After a magnificent view of Bordeira beach, the beauty of the virgin valleys where you can barely feel the human presence, the picturesque villages of Vilarinha and Pedralva, you will be ready to face the strong winds that are expected upon arrival in Vila do Bispo. A stretch where you can feel the essence of Costa Vicentina. When crossing the perimeter of the Vila do Bispo forest, proceed calmly and use binoculars, as you are likely to see wild animals, especially birds.
