What to expect

Monteverde was not always a world-famous ecotourism destination.
Before conservation and tourism transformed the region, this was a rural community shaped by agriculture, cattle ranching, and life deeply connected to nature.
This immersive conservation experience takes you beyond traditional nature tours and into
the living story of how Monteverde became one of the most recognized conservation models
in the world.
Throughout the experience, you will explore the relationship between community,
conservation, tourism, education, regeneration, and biodiversity while visiting some of the
places that helped shape Monteverde’s environmental identity.
The journey begins at the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve, where you will discover how
environmental education and community-led conservation transformed the region.
Next, visit CASEM, a local artisan cooperative where conservation and tourism helped
create new economic opportunities for local families and women-led initiatives.
The experience continues at the Children’s Eternal Rainforest, one of the largest private
protected forests in Central America, protected through an international movement led by children from around the globe.
