1Mancos Valley Overlook
From here, you can see some of the distinct ecosystems in these mountains. There’s the shrub-steppe community at lower elevations dominated by plants like sagebrush and rabbitbrush. A little higher up is the pinyon-juniper woodland, also known as the “pygmy forest.” Here, pinyon and juniper trees are king.
