The Calico Basin Trail is a fairly easy 1.5 mile out-and-back trail that will show you some new angles of the Calico Hills, but it mostly serves as a connecting route to other longer trails.
Today the Calico Hills are mounds of hard, red rock, but they looked completely different 180 million years ago. Back then, you’d instead find a huge field of shifting sand dunes.
Up ahead is Sandstone Quarry Overlook, where miners used to harvest sandstone!

Need a break from the heat? The Ice Box Canyon Trail is just ahead. After a 15-minute walk through the desert, we’ll find ourselves flanked by cliff walls that create a whole new biome.
This spot is particularly popular among bird-watchers, as many of the over 100 species of birds in Red Rock can be seen from this open, unobstructed view.

If you’re visiting Red Rock Canyon during the wetter months of April-December, you might be enticed to venturing into Lost Creek Canyon!
This easy trail offers a nice walk and a peek into history at the same time. The 2.4 mile, 2-hour out-and back trail leads to the entrance of Pine Creek Canyon.
