Clients must confirm the bus company they are traveling with so we can arrange their pick-up from the bus terminal in the town of Uyuni to begin the tour. Buses usually arrive between 6:00 and 7:00 AM, and our tour starts at 10:30 AM. Therefore, please provide us with the details of your arrival bus company or let us know the hotel where you will be staying for pick-up arrangements.
Starting in Uyuni, we meet at your pick-up point (bus/train station, airport, or hotel). Board our 4x4 to visit the train cemetery and then drive to Colchani (30 mins) to learn about salt mining and explore the market. Enter the Salar de Uyuni, adjusting the route depending on seasonal conditions. From January to April, we may reach Playa Blanca (flag stand approx. 10 km in), while February to March often requires exploring the edges for the mirror effect. Rain boots will be provided for walking on the flooded salt flats to enjoy reflections (weather permitting). End the day with a stunning sunset before returning to Uyuni (Basic & Standard) or nearby Colchani (Plus) for dinner and rest.
Leaving Uyuni and the salt flats behind today, we are bound south for the enigmatic Laguna Colorada*. On the way, we visit and walk along Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarkota, and Honda lagoons to photograph wild flamingos up close and traverse Siloli Desert across extensive, barren landscapes where Arbol de Piedra* (stone tree) and other geological formations exist. It will be a long day and long distance covered but with plenty of scenic stops, surreal landscapes, and Andean wildlife all along. Arrive at your accommodation near Laguna Colorada* in the evening for a warm dinner and a well-needed rest. For our Plus package, Arbol de Piedra and Laguna Colorada are visited on the following day because of the location of Tayka de Piedra Hotel.
This expedition of a lifetime comes to an end today with a very early start that brings us to Sol de Mañana, (Rising Sun) - an otherworldly, steaming geyser field high up in a massive crater. Follow up with a pleasant soak in the natural hot springs of Polques before reaching the surreal Laguna Verde (green lagoon) at the foot of Volcán Licancabur** - Bolivia’s southwesternmost point. Leaving Laguna Verde behind, set off on our scenic drive back to Uyuni, not before we make a few stops for some fresh air and to enjoy more startling views of the region. Arrive in the town of Uyuni late afternoon, where the tour ends. Optional: At Laguna Verde, you may choose to be dropped off at the border post 20 mins away to board a previously arranged bus transfer to San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. Please choose this option at the time of booking if desired.
