What to expect

First Stop: Trim Castle, regarded as one of the most impressive and best-preserved Anglo-Norman structures in Ireland. It was constructed in 1147 after the Anglo-Normans arrived in the country. King Henry II granted Hugh de Lacy, the baron of Meath, along with Dublin custody.

Second stop. Athlone Castle
Visit the 12th-century Athlone Castle. Following extensive renovations, the 13th-century Norman castle was reopened in 2012. It features eight new exhibition spaces that exhibit the castle's history and the people who lived there. There is something for everyone in the castle.

Third stop: The Sean's Bar in Athlone is regarded as the oldest continuously operating pub in Ireland. It's believed that the pub was first established around 900 AD. Archaeologists discovered the walls of the building were made from ancient materials such as wattle and daub.

Fourth stop: Clonmacnoise Monastic Site One of Ireland's most popular historical sites is the ancient monastic community of Clonmacnoise, which can be found along the River Shannon. Established by Saint Ciaran in the 6th century, this place became a center of learning and religion that's visited by scholars from all around the world.
