This tour is offered on: Mondays: Las Bachas / North Seymour Sundays: North Seymour / Las Bachas After gathering all their essentials (camera, hat, sunscreen, swim gear, etc.), guests head out from the meeting point at approximately 7:45 a.m. Around that time, we head to the town and hop aboard a transfer bus that will take us on a 45-minute drive across the highlands of Santa Cruz Island to the Itabaca Channel. Once there, we board the Yacht and set sail to the small yet gorgeous island of North Seymour. As we begin our hiking excursion of the island, you will immediately notice that North Seymour resembles a relatively flat slab of terrain, the result of underwater uplift rather than volcanic activity. Prepare to be greeted by some of the most iconic Galapagos birds. You'll also see the lounging Galapagos sea lions; the endemic land iguana and its aquatic relative (the only marine iguana in the world); and the masked cousin of the blue-footed booby –the majestic Nazca booby.
At around 12:00 p.m., we’ll set sail and head over to Las Bachas Beach, located on the north shore of Santa Cruz Island. After WWII, US military barges were beached and abandoned here, which led to its nickname "the barges beach", that gradually morphed into “las bachas” in Spanish. Today, it is an important nesting area for the eastern Pacific green sea turtle. Its numerous brackish lagoons, only a few steps away from the sea, are the feeding grounds of various wading birds. Fantastic snorkeling, swimming, and/or simply enjoying the soft, white-sand beach are some of the activities you can enjoy here, starting at approx. 1:00 p.m. Lunch is served back aboard the Yacht. At around 3:00 p.m., we’ll set sail and head back to the Itabaca Channel. Upon arrival, we’ll disembark and hop on the bus that will take us back. Keep in mind: Day Tours are subject to change due to weather conditions, logistical reasons, guests’ safety and/or Galapagos National Park Regulations.
