Archeological zone: We will not only visit the beautiful downtown of Izamal with its gorgeous yellow constructions, but we will also visit 3 pyramids located right within the city: Itzamatul Pyramid + Kinich Kakmó Pyramid + Hun Pik Toc Pyramid. Izamal originally belonged to the Mayas, but once the Spaniards took it, many Spanish constructions were built on top of existing Mayan pyramids. One example of this is The San Antonio de Padua Convent, which was built on top of a Mayan building using its rocks and more elements. This was very common within cities that were conquered by Europeans. They used to do this to evangelize Mayans and convert them to catholicism.
