What to expect

Kintsugi has recently gained worldwide attention, extending beyond Japan. While many Kintsugi methods exist, the technique introduced in this class is the classic method, using 100% natural materials and traditional Japanese "Urushi" lacquer.

At our workshop, we practice traditional kintsugi using classical techniques. The authentic process consists of six main steps and completing a single piece can take months. Participants will focus on Step 5—kin-maki (gold sprinkling), the highlight of the process.
We also introduce the full restoration process and its history, sharing the beauty of traditional culture the Kintsugi Master has studied through over 50 years of lacquerware restoration. Guests can view the muro (drying chamber), vessels in restoration and completed works.

You can restore either a vibrant, newly crafted vessel or a unique antique sourced from Kyoto. The skilled team, trained by the Kintsugi Master, guides you through the process for deeper understanding.
Through videos and slides (English) you will also learn about the history and process of Kintsugi, as well as the characteristics of Urushi and the manufacturing process.
