Day 1: Fly Addis Ababa – Jinka (BCO) – Drive to Turmi

Key Afer
Your adventure begins with a flight from Addis Ababa to Jinka. Upon arrival, you will meet your professional guide and driver, who will greet you with a comfortable, air-conditioned 4WD vehicle equipped with charging ports. From Jinka, drive south toward Turmi, home of the Hamer people. Along the way, visit the Bena tribe’s stilt-walking boys, a unique cultural tradition often seen in the area. If your trip falls on a Thursday, we will stop at Key Afer Market, the largest and most vibrant market in the region. This colorful gathering brings together three major tribes, including the Bena, for trading, socializing, and storytelling. Be sure to check out the shaded café area under the trees, where locals gather to relax and chat.

Alduba
If your visit falls on a Tuesday, make sure to stop at the vibrant Alduba Market. Larger than the markets in Turmi or Dimeka, Alduba attracts a lively crowd from several surrounding tribes who gather to trade goods, share news, and socialize. One of the market’s highlights is the informal café area beneath the trees at the back—an authentic social hub where locals sit, drink, and chat in the shade. It’s an ideal place to observe the everyday rhythm of life in the Omo Valley.

Turmi
In the afternoon, we’ll visit a traditional Hamar village and spend time with one of the largest and most welcoming communities in the region. If the timing is right and the season permits, you may also have the rare opportunity to witness the extraordinary Hamar bull-jumping ceremony—a powerful and deeply symbolic rite of passage that often takes place with little advance notice.

Day 2
Turmi – Omorate (Dassanech Tribe) – Drive to Jinka – Ari Village Visit

Omorate
After breakfast, travel south to Omorate near the Kenyan border to visit the Dassanech tribe, semi-nomadic agro-pastoralists who live along the banks of the Omo River. Spend time in the village observing daily life, from cattle keeping and milking goats to traditional crafts and toolmaking. Afterward, begin the drive north to Jinka.

Depending on the day, you may also experience the Dimeka Market (held on Saturday and Tuesday), one of the best places to see the Hamar people in action. Located about 30 km north of Turmi, this market includes a lively area for souvenirs and tribal crafts.

Jinka
In the afternoon, visit an Ari village for a warm and authentic cultural experience. Known for their farming traditions, pottery, local distilling, and coffee roasting, the Ari people welcome visitors into their lush homesteads. Walk through the village and, if invited, enjoy a traditional coffee ceremony with a local family.

Day 3
Jinka – Mursi Village – Fly Back to Addis Ababa

Mago National Park
Begin the day with an early drive into Mago National Park to visit the Mursi people—renowned for their clay lip plates, scarification, and bold expressions of beauty and identity. Explore the village respectfully and learn about their unique customs and beliefs. After your visit, return to Jinka for your afternoon flight back to Addis Ababa, bringing with you lasting memories of one of Africa’s most culturally diverse regions.
