Assisi’s “jewel in the crown” is the grandiose Basilica Papale di San Francesco (Papal Basilica of St. Francis), one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in all of Christendom. You’ll understand why when you see the vast, breathtaking frescoes by Giotto, the most famous painter in Medieval times.

The Temple of Minerva is an ancient Roman building in Assisi which dates back to 1st century BC. It currently houses the church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, built in 1539 and renovated in Baroque style in the 17th century.

The Rocca Maggiore is a fortress that overlooks the historical town center of Assisi. The fortress is a lively example of 14th century military architecture, built in Albornoz style with a square plant and a Polygonal Tower.
