During the tour we will drive through the districts Saramacca and Coronie with our end stop in Nickerie. The first stop we will make is in Groningen, Saramacca where the locals live from livestock farming and growing fruits and vegetables.
Next stop is Coronie, where the locals used to earn their living by growing coconuts. Nowadays, a small group still remains in this district because life became difficult and less people where interested in processing coconuts. Most of them came to Paramaribo for a better future.
From the coconut culture we end up at the rice culture in Nickerie. The capital of Nickerie is Nieuw Nickerie and has about 30.000 inhabitants, making it the second largest city in Suriname. The Bigipan Nature Reserve is located in Nickerie and is the perfect place for bird and nature lovers. The nature reserve is known as a breeding ground for many bird species, including the Red Ibis.

We are leaving at 8.00 am from Paramaribo and we will drive to Groningen, the capital of the district Saramacca. Here we will make our first stop and visit the smallest square with the most monuments of the multi cultural history of Suriname. The guide will inform you about these monuments and you will have a walk around the area.
At Coronie we will make our second stop. You will witness the beautiful and unique houses and the several coconut palm trees. This district is known for their coconut trees. Here we will also have a lunch break at one of the restaurants.
After the lunch the journey continues to Nickerie. Along the way you will see the rice fields, which Nickerie is known for. We will arrive at Residence Inn where you will spent the night. After check-in we will have a walk in Nieuw Nickerie, the capital of Nickerie. We will visit Zeedijk and enjoy a beautiful sunset.
After breakfast we will visit Bigipan. We will make a boat trip through the nature reserve of Bigipan. This place is know for the many birds that come here during the winter season. You can spot a 120 different species of birds, like the Red Ibis, Osprey and Heron.
