Discover the lively atmosphere of Mainz with an insider and hear interesting stories instead of boring dates. Of course if dates are your thing, then I have a Ph.D. in History and won't leave you wanting!
Apart from the "Big 5" we will look at the little details that make living in Mainz so fascinating and that will allow you to experience the real German culture and way of life.
Unless otherwise arranged, the meeting point is not far away from the cathedral, directly at the river at Fischtorplatz 50.00003108014045, 8.278732931964136
My tours usually end in the most beautiful part of Mainz.
The tour begins on the Rhine promenade with beautiful views of the river.
At the magnificent cathedral square where we will see colourful, ornately decorated old houses and the beautiful renaissance well. If we are lucky, we will also experience the traditional farmers' market which still takes place here every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday (until 14:00) as it has for centuries.
From the cathedral we will stroll through the nearby pedestrianised old town ("Altstadt"). We will walk along the romantic winding lanes of the medieval part of the city and discover picturesque little squares such as the Cherry Orchard ("Kirschgarten") with its half-timbered houses.
For over a thousand years the mighty St. Martin's cathedral has towered over the ancient city of Mainz. Here kings have been crowned and the Protestant Reformation was kindled. Discover its many unique features, hear about its dramatic history and meet headless St. Alban in the cloisters.
