This is a children-friendly version of the classic Cathedral and Old Mainz Tour; we will still get to see the highlights but there will be plenty of opportunities for the children to discover hidden animals and hear interesting stories instead of "boring" facts and dates as we wander around the pedestrianized old town.
Unless otherwise arranged, the meeting point is at the large red stone column in the market square which is right beside the cathedral.

The tour begins on the magnificent cathedral square where we will see colourful, ornately decorated old houses and the beautiful renaissance well. If we are lucky, we will also experience the traditional farmers' market which still takes place here every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday (until 14:00) as it has for centuries and maybe even see the chicken at the egg stall.
For over a thousand years the mighty St. Martin's cathedral has towered over the ancient city of Mainz. Here kings have been crowned and there are surprising features to be discovered in the cloisters including (for older children) headless St. Alban.
From the cathedral we will stroll through the nearby pedestrianised old town ("Altstadt"). We will walk along the winding lanes of the medieval part of the city and discover picturesque little squares such as the Cherry Orchard ("Kirschgarten") with its half-timbered houses and more animals to be discovered.
