The mineral-enriched geothermal mud contains a variety of minerals and trace elements that offer numerous health benefits. The mud has a detoxifying and purifying action on the skin, absorbing excess oils and fatty secretions from within the pores, leaving you feeling soft, smooth, and rejuvenated. Additionally, the mud has bactericidal properties through its sulphur content, which kills bacteria and assists in the prevention and elimination of acne. The strong affinity of the mud to moisture in the skin also promotes the regeneration of skin cells.

Hell’s Gate is located just outside of Rotorua’s city centre. From the city simply travel east on SH30. At approximately 5 minutes past the airport, you will turn right towards Whakatane. Hell’s Gate is 3kms down this road.

- The mud bath has a time-limit of 20 minutes once a day for health and safety reasons.
- The chemical makeup of our muds and waters will tarnish most jewellery, particularly silver. We recommend removing it and waiting 24 – 48 hours to put it back on.
- Your swimwear and towels will have a sulphur smell to them after your experience and will need to be cleaned thoroughly. We recommend using old swimwear, or if you have any concerns to hire or buy from Hell’s Gate, subject to availability.
- Not Recommended for travelers with Sulphur Allergies.
