Ghent Walking Tour - City Highlights and Beyond Tradition

Ghent, Belgium

1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English

We begin with a short introduction at the Vrijdagmarkt before setting off on a 1.5- to 2-hour journey of discovery through Ghent. Along the way, you’ll uncover the origins of the city’s name and explore the very birthplace of Ghent, a city with a history stretching back nearly 1,400 years.

The tour takes you past iconic landmarks such as the three medieval towers — Saint Bavo’s Cathedral, the Ghent Belfry and Saint Nicholas’ Church — and the picturesque Graslei and Korenlei quays. In the late Middle Ages, this harbour area was the beating heart of trade, helping Ghent grow into the most prosperous city in Northern Europe.

Yet Ghent is much more than its medieval splendour. The city is home to three serene beguinages, outstanding museums and green parks. It proudly hosted the World Expo of 1913 and is internationally known as a capital of street art — far beyond the famous Graffiti Street. Today, Ghent is a vibrant, living city where visitors, residents and students come together.
