Welcome to the 7 day Spirit of Outlander 2018 tour, inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series and Scotland’s spirited history and heritage. Our tour combines a wealth of Scotland’s ancient monuments and famous battlefields with its traditions and landscapes. And for good measure, we’ve thrown in plenty of legendary myths and folklore – as well as a surprise or two!
Spirit Journeys’ team, have prepared an action-packed Outlander tour around Scotland taking in cities and towns, and passing through some of the wonderful scenery unique to the Scottish Highlands. You’ll be transported back in time as you learn of Scotland’s gripping history, your camera will work hard to capture the country’s wonderful scenic landscapes, and you’ll finally get to visit the Outlander film locations you’ve been dreaming of.
We arrange collection from starting hotel on the tour.
First visit is to Glasgow Cathedral
Then onto George square before going back to hotel for welcome dinner
First on our list is Doune Castle which plays a leading role in the show, substituting for the fictional Castle Leoch and home to Colum MacKenzie and his clan in the 18th century.
Next stop a visit to Tullibardine Chapel
Then onto Drummond Castle Gardens
Finally last stop Tibbermore Church
After breakfast we will take you to the Highland Folk Museum. Replicas of 18th century turf-roofed Highland crofts at the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore made the ideal choice for period scenes in Outlander, including when Dougal collects the rent. Our drive continues to the highland Capital, the City of Inverness.
Today is reserved for Culloden – the famous battlefield where the Jacobite uprising led by Bonnie Prince Charlie came to its tragic end – and Clava Cairns the 2000 year old stone circles that are said to have inspired Diana Gabaldon to write Outlander. You will then enjoy afternoon tea at the historic Culloden House Hotel before driving back to Inverness.
Following breakfast, you will travel back to Edinburgh. En route you will drop in at the Falkland Palace and Culross. Historic Culross is a unique example of what a town in Scotland would have looked like during the 17th and 18th centuries. In Outlander, this charming town was used as the place where Geillis lived and where Claire collected her herbs in the first season. Falkland Palace is the place where some of the first scenes of the TV Series were recorded (1940s in season 1 and 1960s in season 2).
Today you will explore various Outlander Sites near Edinburgh. First on our list is Hopetoun House, which provided the backdrop for a Parisian street and the spare room in Jamie and Claire`s Paris apartment for Outlander season 2. After the tour of this magnificent estate you will go on to visit Midhope Castle and Blackness Castle, all featured in the filming of the series.
No outlander trip would be the same with out a visit to Lallybrocg
We start today our guide takes you on an Outlander-themed guided walk down the Royal Mile which extends downhill to Holyrood Palace, the Queen’s official residence in Scotland. En route you will hear about the history of this famous street and of the shaping of the city of Edinburgh over the centuries. Be prepared for some stories to make your hair stand on end, and others which will have you laughing or even crying. You’ll also hear about Jacobite connections and, of course, we’ll be stopping off at some of the key locations used in Series 3. After the guided walking tour, you will have the opportunity to visit Holyrood Palace, (entry not included if you wish), or you can use your free time to explore more of this fascinating city
