After completing the registration process, begin your climb through lush rainforest. As you ascend, the terrain gradually changes, and you will camp at Machame Camp, where you can enjoy the views of the mountain’s lower slopes.
Distance: 9 km (5.6 miles) Trekking Time: 4-6 hours Elevation Gain: 740 meters / 2,428 feet Camp Elevation: 3,840 meters / 12,600 feet Today’s hike takes you from Machame Camp to the Shira Plateau. As you climb, enjoy sweeping views of the mountain’s upper reaches. The day ends at Shira Camp, where you'll have time to acclimatize and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding terrain.
Distance: 15 km (9.3 miles) Trekking Time: 5-7 hours Elevation Gain: 110 meters / 361 feet (to Lava Tower), then descent to Barranco Camp Camp Elevation: 3,950 meters / 12,960 feet This day includes an ascent to Lava Tower (4,630 meters), followed by a descent to Barranco Camp. The climb helps with acclimatization, and the descent ensures you don’t gain too much elevation too quickly. Barranco Camp is surrounded by towering cliffs, offering a spectacular backdrop.
Distance: 9 km (5.6 miles) Trekking Time: 6-8 hours Elevation Gain: 730 meters / 2,395 feet Camp Elevation: 4,680 meters / 15,350 feet After a hearty breakfast, begin the climb from Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp. The terrain becomes rocky and more exposed as you ascend. Barafu Camp is a key stop before your summit attempt, and you’ll rest and hydrate here in preparation for the challenging climb ahead.
Distance: 19 km (11.8 miles) total Trekking Time: 5-7 hours up / 5-6 hours down Elevation Gain: 1,215 meters / 3,986 feet (to summit) Summit Elevation: 5,895 meters / 19,343 feet Camp Elevation (Mweka): 3,090 meters / 10,150 feet The day starts with a midnight departure for the summit attempt. After hours of steep climbing, you’ll reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro, just in time for sunrise. After celebrating your success, descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
