  • Government District (Pass by)

    The Berlin government district is the area in which the most important institutions of the executive (federal government) and the legislative (German Bundestag) have their headquarters. The core of the “political center” of the capital is formed by the Federal Chancellery, the Reichstag building and the neighboring Bundestag buildings Paul-Löbe-Haus, Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus and Jakob-Kaiser-Haus. Some of the buildings in the government district are grouped in the so-called federal band.

    The Museum Island is a building ensemble consisting of five museums in the northern part of the Spree Island in the historic center of Berlin. It is one of the most important sights in the German capital and one of the most important museum complexes in Europe.

  • Nikolaiviertel (Pass by)

    The Nikolaiviertel in Berlin's Mitte district is the oldest settlement area in the capital. Almost completely destroyed in the Second World War, it was rebuilt from 1980 to 1987 by the architect Günter Stahn on behalf of the East Berlin magistrate on the occasion of the city's 750th anniversary. An ensemble of historic town houses was built around the reconstructed St. Nicholas Church on an almost medieval floor plan.

    The Mühlendamm lock in Berlin is located in the Mitte district east of the Mühlendamm on Fischerinsel. It lies along the course of the Spree, which is part of the Spree-Oder waterway. The lock was put into operation in 1942 and overcomes a drop of 1.51 meters.

    Tear Palace is the colloquial name for the former exit hall of the Friedrichstrasse border crossing point in the Mitte district of Berlin. From here, S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains ran to West Berlin and long-distance trains ran via West Berlin to the Federal Republic.
