Templo Mayor was the ceremonial center of Tenochtitlan. It stayed buried under
Mexico City until 1978, when electric company workers hit a carved monolith and
an entire block of the historic center had to come down.
First, the open-air ruins: the platforms of the twin pyramid built for Tlaloc
and Huitzilopochtli.

This museum comprises the archaeological zone, which includes the complex of ruins of what was the most important ceremonial temple of Tenochtitlan; it also has its own museum displaying all kinds of archaeological pieces from Tenochtitlan (before, during, and after the colonial period), highlighting the historical and cultural aspects of the era, as well as the customs and traditions of war.
