Upon arrival at Jevas Hotel in Arusha, you will be transferred to Momella Gate at Arusha National Park. Here, porters will organize and pack your belongings for the hike, and you, along with your guide, will register with the Tanzania National Park Authority. Your ascent in Arusha National Park begins in the company of an armed ranger and highly trained mountain guides. The initial hike resembles a walking safari; expect to encounter giraffes, zebras, antelope, buffalo, and possibly elephants along the trail. The hike will take you past the Ngarenanyuki River and a stunning waterfall at Mt. Meru's base. Upon reaching Miriakamba Hut (2500m), a chef will prepare a hot dinner and provide hot water for washing. You can then enjoy the magnificent sunset and overnight stay.
After breakfast, you'll start climbing the steep path that runs along the ridge. Along the way, you might spot a variety of species! The trail provides breathtaking vistas of the Meru Crater and the Ash Cone. Upon reaching the camp, you have the option to hike up Little Meru (3,820 m) with your guide for better acclimatization. An early dinner will be provided to ensure you get ample rest before attempting the midnight summit.
The ascent commences at midnight and includes a challenging climb to Rhino Point at 3,800 meters, proceeding to Cobra Point at 4,350 meters, and culminating at Meru Peak, which stands at 4,562 meters, offering breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro. The return journey to Rhino Point ranks among the most thrilling and scenic walks in Africa. Following lunch and a short respite at Saddle Hut, the trek continues downward to Momella Gate. The descent marks a time for celebration, with the issuance of certificates by the Tanzania National Parks, culminating in a drop-off at Arusha Town.
