Begin your journey to Mount Kilimanjaro at the Marangu Gate, where our team of guides, chefs, and porters will greet you. Once you've completed the necessary gate registration, embark on a hike through the lush rainforest along a winding trail. At Kisambioni, the trek's midpoint, take a break for a picnic lunch before proceeding through the dense forest. Your day ends at Mandara Hut, which offers stunning vistas of Mawenzi Peak to the northwest and the Taveta landscapes to the east, weather permitting. Mandara Hut, an A-frame structure, can house up to seventy guests and provides beds with mattresses to ensure a restful sleep.
After breakfast, we will begin our journey to Horombo Hut. The landscape will change significantly as we traverse Mount Kilimanjaro's moorland, a rocky desert plain with succulent plants. We will stop for a picnic lunch at Kambi ya Taabu during the hike. If the weather is clear, you will have the opportunity to enjoy breathtaking views of the Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. We expect to reach the Horombo Huts around 3:00pm, where you can spend the afternoon relaxing. The Horombo Huts are quite popular and are considered the best huts on Mount Kilimanjaro. These small A-frame huts can accommodate up to eight people and provide comfortable lodging for hikers going up, down, or acclimating. They can accommodate a maximum of 120 hikers, along with porters, chefs, and guides.
From Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut, our journey begins after breakfast as we traverse the moorland and alpine desert regions of Mount Kilimanjaro. Roughly an hour into the hike, we'll come across a quaint mountain stream known as the Maua River. Beyond Maua, the landscape becomes more even, and the greenery gradually thins out. A delightful lunch awaits us at Middle Red Hill. Post-lunch, we'll resume our ascent, spending the next four hours on a gentle climb through the saddle of Mount Kilimanjaro. The stark beauty of the desert is offset by the awe-inspiring views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. We'll arrive at Kibo Hut by afternoon, where it's advisable to rest and gear up for the midnight summit attempt.
From Kibo Hut to the summit and then to Horombo Hut, the final leg of your trek takes you to Uhuru Peak, the Roof of Africa. Departing just after midnight, you will undertake a challenging five-hour climb to Gillman’s Point on the crater rim. Although this path is the least difficult among the three crater ascent routes, it remains demanding. Roughly thirty minutes into the hike, you'll navigate a series of rocky switchbacks stretching over 600 meters (2,000 feet) to Gillman's Point. The journey along the crater rim will last approximately two hours. At the summit, you'll have the opportunity to capture photos and celebrate your accomplishment. Following this, the descent to Horombo Hut begins, marking the final chapter of your journey. The way down unveils stunning vistas previously obscured on the way up. You'll reach Horombo Huts by the afternoon, giving you time to relish the concluding moments of your mountain experience.
After breakfast, we will finish the trek by descending the Marangu Gate. The final hike is truly magical as you will walk through Mount Kilimanjaro's tranquil cloud forest. Please be cautious as the trail can be quite slippery. Our vehicles will be waiting at Marangu Gate to drive you back to Arusha. You will have the opportunity to purchase sodas and souvenirs to commemorate your conquest of the Marangu Route. Drop off will be at Jevas Hotel in Arusha.
