A Suricata Representative will be waiting for you at the reception, holding a sign or board with your name on it. They will provide the meet and greet service, accompanied by a brief introduction.
You will travel from Arusha in 4x4 Land Cruisers/Land Rovers to the Londorossi Gate (2250m), which will take about 1 hour for registration and payment to secure a permit. Afterwards, you'll drive to the Lemosho starting point (2100m) to begin your ascent. The 6 km climb through the rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree Camp) at 2750m will take approximately 3 hours, with an altitude gain of 650m. Dinner and an overnight stay are arranged at the campsite.
Following breakfast, the hike proceeds through the heath and moorland zone to Shira One Camp, situated at 3500 meters. You will cover a distance of 13 kilometers and ascend 1100 meters in altitude. Given the steepness of the walk, it's important to manage your pace, but ultimately, you will reach the camp. Dinner and overnight accommodations are at the campsite.
Begin your hike to Barranco Camp (3940m) early in the morning after breakfast, passing through Lava Tower (4600m) for acclimatization. The journey takes 6 to 7 hours and includes a picnic lunch. Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at Barranco Camp (3940m). The total distance is 10.75km, with an altitude gain of 750m up to Lava Tower and an additional 660m from Lava Tower to Barranco.
After breakfast, the ascent of the Barranco Wall (4250m) to Karanga Camp (4000m) begins. A hot lunch will be served upon arrival, followed by rest and an acclimatization walk. The journey takes 3-4 hours. Dinner and overnight accommodations are provided at the camp. The trek covers a distance of 4.25km with an altitude gain of 250m. This route to Karanga Camp is the shortest, allowing for ample rest time.
After breakfast at around 8:30 am, the hike continues through heath and moorland to Barafu Camp, which is at an altitude of 4600m. The trek takes approximately 3-4 hours, covering a distance of 4.25km and ascending 600m. Upon arrival, you'll have a hot lunch, rest, and then enjoy an early dinner before sleeping for a few hours.
At around 12:00 am, you'll wake up to pack essential items for the summit. After having hot drinks and snacks, you'll begin the ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5895m. The climb takes about 6-7 hours, covering a distance of 4.86km with an elevation gain of 1295m. The descent from the summit to Barafu Camp for breakfast takes approximately three hours. Following a few hours of rest, you will have a hot lunch before continuing your descent through the alpine desert, heath, and moorland to reach the rainforest's edge at Mweka Camp, which is situated at 3100 meters. The total distance from Uhuru Peak to Barafu Camp and then to Mweka Camp is 11.5 kilometers, with an altitude decrease of 2795 meters.
After breakfast, you will trek to Mweka Gate (1800m), passing through the rainforest for approximately 3-4 hours. The journey spans 9.1km, with a descent of 1400m in altitude. Upon reaching the gate, if you have successfully summited, you will be awarded a certificate, meet the vehicle, and be transferred to Jevas Hotel in Arusha for drop-off. This marks the end of the climb.
