    Zona Arquelogica Edzna

You can visit the ancient capital of the Mayan World during the Classic period, the archaeological zone of Edzná is one of the must-see spots during your next visit to the state of Campeche. In the Small Acropolis there is also a raised quadrangular platform, with four buildings, in which architectural features of the Puuc style can be seen; one of the structures has a staircase in which glyphs with geometric, animal and human images are distinguished.

The Great Acropolis is perhaps the most representative set of Edzná; It is a large raised platform with a quadrangular plan, on which some eleven or twelve structures were erected. The general style of the ensemble shows a great cultural influence from the Guatemalan Petén.

A good example of Puuc architecture (derived from the earliest style of construction known as Petén, from Edzná is the Plataforma de los Cuchillos, located in the northern part of the archaeological site. An offering of flint knives found in that place earned the name by which this structure is currently known, which was accessed by stairways located on its four sides. The building had 20 rooms, of which 12 had vaulted ceilings that have not been preserved and eight more were roofed with perishable materials.
