Edzná is a Mayan archaeological site, located in the Mexican state of Campeche, in the Edzná Valley. Due to the type of soil, the valley in which it is located floods in the rainy season and maintains high humidity almost all year round. To remedy this inconvenience, the Mayas developed a network of canals that drained the valley and the water was conducted towards a lagoon, which was transformed into a dam, by means of retaining walls, while other canals served to irrigate the fields. This propitiated a degree of humidity in the land, for intensive cultivation, while the canals provided fishing. Edzná has religious and residential buildings distributed in an area of approximately 25 square kilometers. Its architecture is influenced by the Puuc, Petén and Chenes styles.
Visiting Campeche for the first time and looking for a place to stay, I was able to experience a piece of Mexican history in one of the most famous haciendas on the Peninsula. The Uayamón Hacienda, once a reference in the era of green gold. Today, a luxury boutique hotel.
