Getting off the bus you'll be surrounded by monkeys. Macaques, re-introduced to Hong Kong in the 1910’s to eat the poisonous fruits of a plant found around the Kowloon Water Reservoir. Since then a stable Macaque population has established itself in this area.
The path the attention is soon with the beauty of the forest trail and the breathtaking vistas. You'll be on shaded path in forest for most of the hike but every now and then the view opens up to the urban jungle of the Kowloon Peninsula down below. On clear days the skyline of Hong Kong Island is visible, and the former Kai Tak Airport, now fitted with a cruise terminal. Then finally, a climb over the rocky back of the Lion – the city stretched out below.
The hiking tour ends in the district of Wong Tai Sin. The Temple here is one of the most popular temples of Hong Kong, as Wong Tai Sin is the deity "who grants all wishes". The subway station with the same name is just next to the temple.
