This safari tour will take you to the largest game reserve and 2nd largest conservation area in Africa sized at 5,000 square kilometers. This is 4 times bigger than the Serengeti and larger than the entire country of Switzerland. Welcome to Selous Game Reserve! This reserve is one of the most remote ones in Tanzania, hence least visited parks in Africa.
Our driver guide will pick you up and drive you to Selous Game Reserve with picnic lunch to be served on the way. We arrive at the camp early in the afternoon, settle in, and we head for a boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River. The river is formed by the confluence of the Kilombero and Luwegu rivers. It is approximately 600 kilometers (370mi) long and here you will see plentiful hippos and crocodiles. The big herds of Tanzanian Elephants are also attracted by the River Rufiji that flows through the reserve. Some 350 bird species can also be found in the Selous Game Reserve.
After breakfast, we depart for morning and afternoon game drive at the Selous Game Reserve. The Selous Game Reserve is the largest in Africa, covering 54,600 square kilometers. The reserve gets its name from the hunter and explorer Frederick Courtney Selous. He was killed here during World War 1. Selous is famous for elephants. Other species commonly seen are lions, wild dogs, buffaloes, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, zebras and greater kudus. It was originally set aside as a hunting area where animals are abundant but more shy than the Northern Parks.
After breakfast, we drive back to Dar Es Salaam with picnic lunch on the way.
