What to expect

The stunning Pont du Gard is one of the most magnificent man made features in the region.

The ancient Roman aqueduct bridge was built to carry water to Nimes. The Pont du Gard is the highest of all Roman aqueduct bridges and one of the best preserved.

Rich in vines, the land alongside the Gardon river is lush and green, contrasting sharply with the pale stone used for the arches of the bridge. We will taste the regional herbs and the wild fruit of the season as we walk.

Without too much fancy, one can imagine a Roman centurion pacing along the river routes towards the ancient aqueduct.

We will picnic at the river’s edge and enjoy the stunning arcs of the bridge and the dramatic shadows it throws on the surrounding landscape.

An 8km hike around Pont du Gard, the ancient Roman aqueduct, one of the most popular sights in the region

The experience lasts about 4 hours, depending on walking pace and swimming time
