What to expect
The route takes you through the circular medieval old town, still enclosed by much of its original wall and towers. The Münsterbrunnen — the fountain near the Münster at the heart of Villingen — features early with a riddle about the old town's layout that rewards looking at the surroundings as a whole. The Romäusturm, one of the surviving medieval gate towers in the wall, brings an observation task that most people walk past without looking up. The Aussichtsturm Hubenloch, the lookout tower with views over the surrounding Black Forest, features in a photo challenge that gets the group out into the wider scenery. Villingen is compact and the distances between stops are short.
Groups tend to find the historical riddles more engaging than expected, once the town's context becomes clear.
