Hoi An, Vietnam

2 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English

Hoi An is one of the few places where the past has been so carefully kept that walking through it feels like stepping into a different century.

This app-led scavenger hunt takes you through Hoi An on foot, using phone-based riddles to guide you from one landmark to the next. No guide, no fixed start time.

• Find the Japanese Covered Bridge, the Thu Bon River banks, and the Sa Huynh Museum — trading routes, ancient waterways, and cultures spanning millennia
• Move through Hoi An's lantern-lit streets at your own pace, following clues rather than crowds
• Suitable for couples, families, and first-time visitors to Vietnam

Around 2 hours, any group size, available in German and English.

More ancient, more beautiful, more surprising than the photos suggest.

What to expect

Starting at 52 Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai, Hội An, Đà Nẵng, Vietnam, open the Explorial app and enter the 6-digit game code that you received by text and Viator chat message. You're entering one of Southeast Asia's best-preserved trading towns — the riddles bring its history to life.

Your first landmark is the Japanese Covered Bridge, a 400-year-old roofed footbridge built by Japanese merchants in the 16th century. Its curved form and weathered wood are the symbol of Hoi An and the starting point of many of its best stories.

From there the app takes you to the Thu Bon River, whose banks once lined with merchant warehouses from Japan, China, Holland, and Portugal, making Hoi An one of the most cosmopolitan ports in 17th-century Asia.

The route concludes at the Sa Huynh Museum, which houses artefacts from a civilisation that flourished here over 2,000 years ago — a reminder that Hoi An's story begins long before the covered bridge.

Around 2 hours on foot. Move slowly — the old town rewards attention.
