What to expect
Your first landmark is the Fuente de los Coyotes, the coyote fountain in the central plaza that gives the neighbourhood its name — a colonial-era square surrounded by portales and filled with mariachis, markets, and the easy sociability of a barrio that knows how good it has it.
From there the app takes you to the arched entrance of the ex convento de San Juan Bautista, the 16th-century convent whose Franciscan architecture frames the plaza and whose interiors mix colonial painting with centuries of neighbourhood devotion.
The route concludes at the Casa Azul, the cobalt-blue house where Frida Kahlo was born and died — now the Frida Kahlo Museum and one of the most moving artist's houses in the world.
Around 2 hours on foot through flat, tree-lined streets. Coyoacán is wonderful to explore slowly.
