What to expect

Starting at Rua de Sá da Bandeira 304 in central Porto, you'll open the Explorial app, enter the 6-digit game code that you received by text and Viator chat message, and follow the riddles through a city of bridges, wine cellars, and riverside drama. No guide, no fixed start time.

Your first landmark is the Ponte Luís I, the magnificent double-decked bridge spanning the Douro River. Built in 1886 by a student of Gustave Eiffel, it offers two very different crossings — and the riddles will push you to notice exactly what sets it apart.

The route then takes you to Jardim do Morro, the sloping garden on Gaia's hillside with an unobstructed view across the rooftops of Porto. It's one of the finest vantage points in the city, and the clues are designed to make you stop and take it all in.

The hunt finishes at the Teatro Nacional de São João, Porto's neoclassical opera house. Built in the late 18th century, it remains the cultural heart of the city's upper town.

The tour takes around 2 hours at an easy pace. Porto and Gaia are best explored on foot — and this hunt makes sure you cover all the ground that matters.
