What to expect
Your first major stop is the Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán, a 16th-century church that stops even seasoned travellers in their tracks. The golden Baroque interior and carved stone facade hide details that the riddles will send you hunting for.
Next, the route leads to the Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca, a botanical garden set within a former convent. Here, native plants from across the Zapotec world grow alongside centuries of indigenous knowledge.
The hunt then brings you to the Mercado Benito Juárez, Oaxaca's bustling covered market. Stalls packed with chillies, chocolate, textiles, and mezcal make this one of the most sensory stops on the route.
