What to expect
At Teatro Arriaga, the ornate opera house that anchors the entrance to the old town, challenges probe the theatre's 19th-century construction and the composer whose name it bears.
The trail then leads to the Mercado de la Ribera on the Nervión riverbank, one of the largest covered markets in Europe, where riddles test your knowledge of its Art Deco stained glass and the riverside trading culture it embodies.
In the legendary Siete Calles — the seven original streets of medieval Bilbao — you'll pick up points for navigating the lanes and uncovering which of the original seven still survive.
The whole trail takes around two hours at your own pace, with no guide and no fixed schedule.
