What to expect

Starting at Stockhauspl., 67657 Kaiserslautern, Germany, open the Explorial app and enter the 6-digit game code that you received by text and Viator chat message. The riddles lead you through a city whose imperial past is hiding in plain sight.

Your first landmark is the Kaiserpfalz, the ruins of a 12th-century imperial palace where Holy Roman Emperors including Barbarossa once held court — one of the most significant Hohenstaufen sites in Germany.

Next, the app guides you to Brezel Adam, a local institution whose handmade pretzels have been a fixture of Kaiserslautern life for generations, and whose name is as famous in the Palatinate as any landmark.

The route concludes at the Stiftskirche, a collegiate church with Romanesque and Gothic elements whose tower has watched over the city since the Middle Ages.

Around 2 hours at a relaxed pace. No guide required, and the game picks up exactly where you left off if you stop for a pretzel along the way.
