Bordeaux Self-Guided City Walking Tour & Scavenger Hunt

2 hours (approximately)
Offered in: German and 5 more

Bordeaux spent 300 years getting rich on wine, then spent another 50 making sure the architecture matched — it worked.

This app-led scavenger hunt takes you through central Bordeaux on foot, using phone-based riddles to guide you from one landmark to the next. No guide, no fixed start time.

• Follow clues to the Grand-Théâtre, Grosse Cloche, and Place de la Bourse — three landmarks that trace the city from its medieval gates to its 18th-century golden age
• Start whenever suits you and take all the time you need — no time limit, no pressure
• Works for families, couples, and friend groups; photo challenges at the Miroir d'Eau make the riverfront more competitive than it looks

Around 2 hours, any group size, available in English, French, and Italian.

Bordeaux's reflection pool is the most photographed puddle in France — your phone will explain why it exists.

What to expect

Starting at Place du Parlement in Bordeaux's elegant old city, enter your 6-digit game code that you received by text and Viator chat message into the free Explorial app and begin a self-guided trail through one of France's most beautiful UNESCO World Heritage cities.

At the Grand-Théâtre — completed in 1780 and the model for Paris's Opéra Garnier — challenges explore the colonnaded facade, the lavish interior, and the role this building played in shaping European opera house design.

The trail continues to the Grosse Cloche, one of the oldest belfries in France and the city's medieval symbol, where riddles probe its history as both bell tower and city gate.

At the Place de la Bourse, the perfect 18th-century riverside square with its famous Miroir d'Eau reflection pool, you'll tackle questions about the merchant city that built it and the wine trade that made Bordeaux rich.

The full trail takes around two hours at a relaxed pace, with no guide needed.
