What to expect
Your first landmark is the Elbphilharmonie, Herzog & de Meuron's concert hall perched atop a century-old warehouse — a building so audacious that Hamburg argued about it for a decade and then fell completely in love with it.
Next, the app guides you to the Brooksbrücke, one of the elegant iron bridges spanning the canals of the Speicherstadt, framing views of the red-brick warehouses that once held spices, tea, and coffee from across the globe.
The route then takes you to the Traditionshafen am Sandtorkai, where a collection of historic ships is moored along the quay — a floating museum of Hamburg's maritime working life.
Around 2 hours on foot through a district that repays slow, attentive walking. Dress for the harbour wind.
