What to expect

Starting at Fronwagplatz, the old market square, you'll open the Explorial app, enter the 6-digit game code that you received by text and Viator chat message, and set off beneath the oriel windows. The tour is fully self-guided — no guide, no fixed start time, just your group and the city.

The Haus zum Ritter shows off first — its entire facade a Renaissance fresco of virtues, heroes and cautionary tales. Riddles test how closely you read it.

By the Münster, the Schillerglocke hangs in retirement; its inscription inspired Schiller's famous Song of the Bell. Trivia rings a few changes in the quiet herb garden.

Then the lanes descend to the Schifflände, the Rhine landing where boats have set off toward the great falls for centuries.

Around two hours through the oriel city. The final scoreboard tells you who noticed the most — Schaffhausen rewards noticers.
