What to expect
Your first landmark is the Holstentor, the twin-towered city gate that has guarded Lübeck's western approach since 1478, its distinctive pointed rooftops leaning imperceptibly inward over the centuries and somehow remaining one of Germany's most recognisable landmarks.
From there the app takes you to the Rathaus, one of the finest Gothic town halls in northern Europe, whose facade of glazed black bricks and white limestone tracery dominates the market square with quiet authority.
The route concludes at the Stintmarkt, a waterfront quay where fishermen once sold their catch at the edge of the Trave river — now a lively row of outdoor restaurants with some of the best views of the old town from the water's edge.
Around 2 hours on foot. The old town is compact and very walkable.
