Bournemouth Self-Guided City Walking Tour & Scavenger Hunt

2 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English

Bournemouth was founded by a man who planted pine trees on a heath to cure his hay fever — and somehow became Britain's most popular seaside resort.

This app-led scavenger hunt takes you from the town centre down to the seafront on foot, using phone-based riddles to guide you from one landmark to the next. No guide, no fixed start time.

• Follow clues through the Lower Gardens to Bournemouth Pier and the War Memorial — three landmarks that trace the resort from empty heath to Victorian pleasure ground
• Start whenever suits you and take all the time you need — no time limit, no pressure
• Works for families, couples, and friend groups; photo challenges on the pier and in the gardens add a fun competitive edge

Around 2 hours, any group size, available in English.

One man's hay fever built all of this — your phone has the whole story.

What to expect

Starting at The Square in central Bournemouth, enter your 6-digit game code that you received by text and Viator chat message into the free Explorial app and begin a self-guided trail from the town centre to the sea.

Through the Lower Gardens — the manicured Victorian parkland that runs from the town centre down to the beach — challenges explore the gardens' history and test your knowledge of the resort's transformation from remote heath to bustling seaside destination.

The trail leads out along Bournemouth Pier, one of England's longest pleasure piers at over 180 metres, stretching into the English Channel — questions here probe the pier's Victorian origins and the lifeboat station at its end.

At the town's War Memorial on the edge of the Lower Gardens, you'll tackle riddles about the men and women it honours and Bournemouth's role across two world wars.

The trail takes around two hours at a comfortable pace, with no guide and no fixed schedule.
