Rapperswil Self-Guided City Walking Tour & Scavenger Hunt

2 hours (approximately)
Offered in: German

They call Rapperswil the town of roses — 20,000 of them bloom beneath a medieval castle on a Lake Zurich peninsula, and the longest wooden bridge in Switzerland points straight at it.

This app-led scavenger hunt takes you through Rapperswil on foot, using phone-based riddles to guide you from one landmark to the next. No guide, no fixed start time.

• Climb to Schloss Rapperswil, the 13th-century castle above the lake
• Smell your way through the Rosengarten, home to thousands of roses in season
• Walk the Seedamm and Holzsteg, the wooden footbridge tracing a prehistoric crossing

Around 2 hours, any group size, available in German, English, and French.

By the end, this lakeside pocket of the canton of St. Gallen will have thoroughly charmed you.

What to expect

Starting at the Fischmarktplatz on the lakefront, you'll open the Explorial app, enter the 6-digit game code that you received by text and Viator chat message, and begin the climb through the old town. The tour is fully self-guided — no guide, no fixed start time, just your group and the city.

Schloss Rapperswil crowns the peninsula: a stern 13th-century castle with sweeping views over Lake Zurich and the Alps, plus a Polish museum with a story the riddles will unpack.

Below the walls, the Rosengarten earns the town its nickname — thousands of roses in hundreds of varieties, and at least one clue hiding among the beds.

Then comes the Seedamm and Holzsteg: a wooden footbridge running 841 metres across the lake, following a crossing point used since prehistoric times.

Around 2 hours with lake views most of the way, gelato optional. By the end, the town of roses will have earned a place on your shortlist of Swiss favourites.
