Day 1
Rome - Visit to the Basilica Santa Maria Maior in Rome

Arrival. Depending on your arrival time, we can visit the Basilica of São Paulo outside the Wall, where the body of São Paulo is buried. It is the 2nd largest basilica in Rome and the 5th in the world. Check in to the hotel and rest for a few hours if time permits. In the afternoon, we will visit Santa Maria Maior, the main Basilica dedicated to Mary in Rome. We will see the remains of Jesus' manger, Bernini's tomb, the remains of Saint Matthew the Evangelist, the tomb of Saint Jerome and the oldest icon in the world of the Virgin Mary painted by Saint Luke: the famous Salus Populi Romani. We will start early, as our private bus leaves around 7 am bound for the Vatican to experience the 10 am Audience with the Pope. We will see the Pope very closely; sometimes we even shake your hand. There will be time for lunch in the Vatican area, before visiting the Spanish Steps. This is where the Romans met. From there, we will walk to the Trevi Fountain and have time to shop. Followed by a walk to the Pantheon, the oldest functional building in the world, and then to the great artistic place of Piazza Navona at around 4:30 pm. Dinner in Piazza Navona.
