Before the DMZ ID check (You must bring your passport), we’ll stop at three spots in Imjingak Park : the Bridge of Freedom, Mangbaedan Altar, and a steam locomotive from the Korean War. Built in 1972 for North Korean refugees.
The Third Tunnel, dug by North Korea under the DMZ, is about 12 km from Munsan and 52 km from Seoul. Discovered in 1978, it’s big enough for 30,000 soldiers per hour. We’ll walk inside, then watch a short video at the DMZ Theater about Korea’s division and the area’s unique ecosystem. * Please wear comfortable shoes. The tunnel is slippery sometimes.
Dora Observatory, the northernmost observatory on Korea’s west side, sits atop Mt. Dora and opened in 1987. On clear days, you can spot the Gaeseong Industrial Complex, Mt. Songak, North Korean villages, and more through the rooftop telescopes.
Our first stop is a 15-minute hike up to one of Korea’s longest suspension bridges (150 m), once a fierce Korean War battlefield. From the top, you’ll get amazing views of Mt. Gamaksan.
This site saw fierce battles during the Korean War, where many Allied soldiers sacrificed their lives defending Seoul. Key fights took place in April 1951 (Delta Defense Line) and May 1951 (Kansas Line).
