    Mission San Xavier del Bac

This famous church has a long history and its ornate architecture is a must see. This church sits just south of Tucson. You can spend a short time inside based on current restrictions. The Mission was created to serve the needs of the local community, the village of Wa:k (San Xavier District) on the Tohono O'odham reservation, as it still does today. There is also a small giftshop here.

This Mission dates back to the 1700s & is quite relaxing to walk the grounds exploring within the walls. The Tumacácori mission complex was originally protected as Tumacácori National Monument, in 1908 by President Teddy Roosevelt. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
