In Andalusia we are fortunate to have a natural gift, carved over millions of years: the awe-inspiring Gaitanes Gorge.
The origins of this "trail" date back to the early 20th century when the daring workers of the Chorro Hydroelectric Society needed a way to traverse this formidable rock canyon. What they crafted is a path that's merely 1 meter wide and 3 kilometers long... soaring at an astonishing 100 meters above the ground!
A few years later, when the esteemed King Alfonso XIII inaugurated the Conde de Guadalhorce Dam, he traversed this pathway and bestowed upon it the name it bears to this day: "El Caminito del Rey."
A little over 1.5 hours separate Granada from El Chorro, the town where we'll commence our adventure. The route itself is short and devoid of difficulties, spanning 3 kilometers of entirely flat terrain. Yet, the real allure lies in its remarkable location, with sections suspended more than 100 meters above the river.
We'll stroll along vertiginous walkways, cross the reservoir on towering bridges, and relish breathtaking views from precipitous lookout points.
