Mardi Himal or Mt.Mardi of Annapurna sanctuary measure a mere 5587 meters. This mountain sits adjacent to Mt.Fishtail(6993m) north of Pokhara city. The traverse entailing to the base of Mt.Mardi is what we call Mardi Himal Base Trek. This is a relatively short-haul trek in Nepal, ranging from 5-7 days at most. As favored by most trekkers, Mardi Trekking is a perfect substitute for those who can make it to Annapurna Base Camp.
Traverse to Mardi Himal begins from the rural settlement of Dhampus and then takes on numerous Gurung and Magar villages. It follows across the ridge line of Pritam Deurali, Forest Camp, Low Camp, and finally, the High Camp. Owing to its easygoing trekking path, this traverse is a popular form of trekking for novices. The altitude range of the Mardi trek begins at 1650 meters at Dhampus and traverses to Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4500 meters
We will pick up you at the Tribhhuvan International Airport.
Please provide us with your flight schedule, and our representative will be waiting for you at the arrival gate of Tribhuwan International Airport. You will drive towards Thamel from the airport. The second day of the Mardi Himal Trekking begins with a 5-6 hours drive towards Pokhara by Car. We start our journey after breakfast at the hotel. Follow along the Trishuli River until Mugling. Then diverge towards Pokhara following Prithvi Highway. We reach Pohara in the evening and settle in the hotel for the night. (Still we will have time, we’ll explore around the Lake)
Our first day of trekking begins with an hour's drive from Pokhara to Kande. The road takes the Pokhara-Baglung highway until Kande, a small village settlement. From Kande, your trek commences. Today's a relatively easy walk with small ascents over a terraced farm and Rhododendron forest. Between Kande and Pritam Deurali lies the Australian camp, a fantastic vantage point for Annapurna massifs. After 4 hours of trekking, you reach Pritam Deurali for the night stopover. Pritam Deurali portrays a typical rural village in Nepal with stone-built houses and terraced farms.
Today's trail is filled with dense forests, with most evergreen forests. The area's vegetation is temperate, with lush jungles spread everywhere. The course pierces through these deep forests with occasional stopovers in between. The track to the forest camp is filled with Rhododendron and Oak jungles. This stretch of the trek is arcadia for birding enthusiasts with 488 species of birds, including the colorful Himalayan Monal (Danphe) - the national bird of Nepal, Satyr Tragopan, Blood Pheasant, Cheer Pheasant, Snow Partridge, Kalij Pheasant, and various species of eagles, vultures, and owls. We reach Forest Camp in the evening for a night stopover.
There is a gradual ascent of the trail in today's track. We move further up from dense forests. A whole new landmass structure unveils as you approach Low Camp. Lush jungles turn into sparsely scattered Maple, Pine, and Hemlock forests. This space of trekking is characterized by temperate vegetation. You will first glimpse Annapurna massifs as you approach Low Camp.
The stretch from Low camp to high is the toughest traverse of the Mardi Himal trek. We cross the mark of 3000 meters today the trail narrows down. The surrounding geography turns barren and semi-arid. This stretch has several steep ascents, but the Himalayan views make it worthwhile. You will feel the altitude taking over as you reach High camp. There are lots of narrow ridges one should walk on. We reach High Camp for a night stopover.
The final traverse of the Mardi Himal trek begins with an early morning wake-up call. We trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp early in the morning for a sunrise view. It takes 2 hours to reach the viewpoint. The traverse is challenging, with rocky sections of the trail being slippery. The track is narrow, and you will walk on rocky ridges of the mountain. Since the elevation mark traverses beyond 4000 meters, you will feel the altitude gaining. As you reach the base camp, a heavenly environment unveils. The base camp provides an astounding vista of Annapurna massifs. The sunrise view, as seen from the base camp, is said by many as their best. We stay at the base camp for a while and descend to High camp for our stay.
Our descent from the Mardi Himal trek begins today. We follow along the same path on our way up. The trek is easy, with the trail descending gradually until Badal Danda. From Badal Danda, our trail diverges towards Sidhing. The course goes through the deep jungles of the foothills of Mt.Macchapuchre. It's a steep descent with very slippery trail. We reach Sidhing after 5 hours and board a jeep taking us back to Pokhara.
After a sumptuous breakfast at the hotel, we board our vehicle to Kathmandu. We take the Prithvi highway for the return journey. It takes about 7-8 hours to reach Kathmandu. Unwind and relax the evening in Kathmandu.
