Explore how death has shaped the story of New York City. This extended walking tour traces the city’s history through its burial grounds, epidemics, executions, and memorials, uncovering how New Yorkers have dealt with mortality across centuries. From sacred Lenape lands and colonial churchyards to the streets of Chinatown and the Civic Center, you’ll see how life, loss, and remembrance have left their mark on every corner of Manhattan.
The exact meeting point is outside the doors of Manhattan's Whitehall Ferry Terminal (for the Staten Island ferry) at 4 Whitehall Street (under the word “STATEN” in the “STATEN ISLAND FERRY” SIGN above the entrance). The guide will be carrying a folder with the name of the tour on it.
