Begin your journey with an early morning pick-up from your designated location in San Francisco, allowing a comfortable departure before the morning rush. Travel across the Bay Bridge and through California’s scenic Central Valley, where the coastal landscapes gradually transition into rolling farmlands and the pine-covered foothills of the Sierra Nevada as you make your way toward Yosemite National Park.
Upon arriving at Yosemite National Park through the Big Oak Flat Entrance, descend into the stunning Yosemite Valley surrounded by towering granite cliffs and scenic alpine landscapes. Stop at the famous Tunnel View for panoramic views of El Capitan, Bridalveil Fall, and Half Dome. Continue exploring the valley floor with scenic drives past iconic rock formations, lush meadows, and the Merced River. Later, enjoy a short walk along the Lower Yosemite Fall Trail, leading to the base of one of North America’s tallest waterfall systems, where you can experience the refreshing mountain mist and beautiful natural surroundings.
After enjoying the valley floor of Yosemite National Park, continue your journey deeper into the Sierra Nevada mountains toward Lake Tahoe. During the summer season, travel along the scenic Tioga Road, passing alpine lakes, open meadows, granite landscapes, and peaceful mountain forests along the way. The route offers changing views as you climb through the high country before descending toward the eastern Sierra and continuing north to Lake Tahoe. During the winter months, when Tioga Pass is closed due to snowfall, the journey follows California’s historic Gold Country and mountain highways, passing charming small towns, rolling foothills, and forested landscapes before arriving in the Lake Tahoe region. After enjoying for all day,you will be taken to your preferred hotel or resort for an overnight stay.
After a quick mountain breakfast, we’ll take a scenic 20-minute drive north along Highway 89, winding along the mountainside toward the lake's most iconic views. Emerald Bay Overlook: We'll stop at Inspiration Point to take in the incredible view of the glacier-carved bay. You'll see the water change from turquoise to deep sapphire, wrapping around Fannette Island and its historic stone tea house. Vikingsholm Trail (Optional): If you'd like, we can walk a steep 1-mile trail down to the shoreline to see Vikingsholm. Built in 1929, this 38-room historic mansion is famous for its authentic Scandinavian architecture and sod roof.
After exploring Emerald Bay State Park, continue to Heavenly Mountain Resort for time at the lively mountain village and scenic gondola experience. Ride the glass-enclosed gondola high above Lake Tahoe, where you can enjoy sweeping views of the lake, surrounding mountains, and the Nevada landscape from the observation area. Later, return to the village and relax with lunch at one of the local restaurants before beginning the journey back.
After an unforgettable two days exploring Yosemite and Lake Tahoe, we will head back to San Francisco. We’ll drive out of South Lake Tahoe on Highway 50, heading down the mountain slopes and following the scenic American River Canyon. On the way back, we’ll pass right through the historic Gold Rush town of Placerville and drive past Sacramento, the state capital. We'll cross over the Bay Bridge and have you comfortably dropped off right at your San Francisco location by early evening to wrap up our trip.
