The Medici Fortress, or rather The Fortresses as they are called today, which stands alone, was begun by the Republic of Siena and continued by the Florentines after the victory in the battle of Scannagallo (1554) which marked the turning point in the Sienese War in favour of Florence, making it a Medici village.
Our ride ends inside Lucignano. We'll bike through the little alleys or "vicoli" in italian, and we'll stop to take some pictures in front of the most important monuments and builings in town. The village represents one of the most interesting examples of medieval urban planning for its elliptical plan with concentric rings. Its fortunate geographical location, on the top of a hill on the border between the ancient possessions of Florence, Arezzo, Siena and Perugia, has made it strategically important since ancient times.
Our final stop! Once we reach the bar, you'll start your PICI cooking class (1hr) and then eat your lovely lunch.
